College Board discontinues Subject tests and optional SAT essay

The College Board will no longer offer SAT Subject tests. These are optional tests that show a student's proficiency in a particular subject. They are used internationally in a variety of ways, so the College Board will still offer a May and June test. Students will automatically be refunded their money if they have registered for a test.

The College Board will also cancel the optional essay of the SAT test after the June test. If students are registered for the essay, they can cancel with no fees. These measures are being taken in an effort by the College Board to reduce stress on students, they stated on their website. This action may result in colleges looking harder at the english/reading/ and writing section of the SAT as well as asking for a graded paper or other to help determine a student's reading skills.
