Test Optional Colleges

For most students, studying for and taking the SAT and ACT creates a great deal of stress, yet most colleges continue to require one of these tests for admission. Many colleges, however are finding other ways to evaluate students without requiring the SAT or ACT. The University of Chicago, the first top-ranked college to stop requiring the tests, looked at admission files of underperforming students to see which factors indicate they might struggle in college and determined that the ACT and SAT tests did not show this. The transcripts were a far better tool in predicting a students success in the classroom. So, in June 2018 they decided to no longer require the test beginning with the graduating class of 2023.
